Longstoryshort
Longstoryshort is an electronic music artist based out of New York City, causing quite the ruckus both sonically and visually. Maintaining an anonymous appearance, hooded and masked, the focus is to be all about the music, and the stories behind them. Focusing on dark, enigmatic aesthetics, LSS is one of the first fully fledged projects I've taken from the ground up to develop his brand. From branding, content strategy, filmmaking, content creation, artwork & merch design, typography, motion graphics and more, the LSS brand was a test-bed to many of the creative ideas I had, allowing free reign on each project to take the aesthetic as far as I could at the time.
Graphics, Posters, & Cover Art
Longstoryshort was one of the first projects we took on from the ground up. The project itself was new, but the artist behind it was very well seasoned to say the least. He wanted to keep an anonymous, enigmatic aesthetic, focused on aggressive visual styling to everything possible that we put out. Dark, gritty, grainy, but yet in a way familiar, was how we wanted to structure the visual identity for LSS. 16mm film grains, VCR textures and distortion, and old used up footage, brought a certain vintage sensibility to each piece of content, meshing into the initially ambiguous, but unfolding narrative that he wanted to portray.
We wanted to place the visual content into a certain setting, from a time that wasn’t too long ago. CD covers and inner booklets containing the lyrics and ideas for each record, the feeling of DIY home shot film vibes mirrored with sharp cinematic content, to help tie together that there was some history going into the project with it still being it’s own new thing. Feelings of what once was, lust, loss, anger, aggression against the things that stand wrong, and a fighting fire willing to take it all on were things he aimed to synthesize sonically while we did the same aesthetically.
